Friends of ANCHOR is dedicated to supporting people in the north of Scotland living with a cancer diagnosis or blood condition.

Our support is freely available to everyone, every day, and also extends to patient families and clinical staff.

Working hand-in-glove with the NHS, we take care of the ‘big little things’ – whether it’s a listening ear, a home comfort or a smiling face. Our Red Army of staff and volunteers are there when they’re most needed.

Our person-centred wellbeing services include a range of complementary therapies, such as chairside massage and reflexology; care packs containing items specific to a patient’s treatment; and access to our information and support advisor.

Our hospital volunteers are ready to greet patients as they arrive for appointments, offering reassurance and a smile at the end of the corridor, and they also go round the outpatient department with our refreshments trolley – offering free juice, ice lollies and other refreshments.

Thanks to our volunteers, we can also offer a Listening Service, weekly Therapet visits and a patient transport service.

Away from the hospital environment, Friends of ANCHOR runs an online mindfulness course and regular wellbeing retreat days for patients past and present.

Friends of ANCHOR also invests in pioneering research, carried out locally, and ground-breaking equipment to ensure NHS Grampian remains at the forefront of cancer care.

We also promote clinical excellence by funding development programmes for NHS staff to enhance their knowledge and expertise.

Our founding aim was, and remains to this day, to provide the best possible treatment, care and support to patients.

Every penny raised for Friends of ANCHOR goes directly to the cause, thanks to the ongoing support of founding sponsors Balmoral Group who cover all our admin costs.
